USA Residency Match 2023 Cycle

  • June 8th 2022: ERAS 2023 season is officially open!

  • June 28th 2022: Tokens will be available for purchase for IMGs. You can request yours through ECFMGs OASIS page by clicking on ERAS Support Services (bottom left corner of the left hand menu). Remember to use the same ECFMG ID number to log into OASIS that you used to book your USMLE exams.

  • August 1st 2022: Supplemental ERAS Application will open. Read more about it on my Match 2022 entry here.

UK Foundation Year 2023 Cycle

  • Awaiting UKFPO to announce the dates of Eligibility period.​​

    • For reference, last year's Eligibility period dates were announced June 23rd for July 14th till August 4th.​

    • Their announcement also included the guidelines for the Dean's Statement, a requirement for both the eligibility and nationwide Foundation application. So inform your school of this format and that you will be applying for the UK as they need to nominate you!

Here are some career pathways that people take

USA Medical Residency

Is a paid and specialty-oriented training (lasting at least 3 years) done after graduating from medical school. You can apply for it at the beginning of your last year at medical school or after graduating.

UK Foundation Year 1 (FY1)

Is a paid and rotation-oriented year done after medical school to gain full registration with the General Medical Council. You can apply for it at the beginning of your last year at medical school or after graduating. Read more here.

UK Foundation Year 2 (FY2)

Is a paid and rotation-oriented year done after FY1 and before applying to Specialty Training (ST). Some international applicants may be eligible to apply directly for FY2, read more here.

Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Is a research position usually affiliated with a hospital or university. It can be paid or volunteer. It is ideal for medical graduates that want to participate in academia and either begin or strengthen their research portfolio.
